Hi, I’m Ali, the Social Butterfly…
I first came to Malta in 2011 as crew on a superyacht (yes, like Below Deck), then moved here permanently in 2015. I had a few friends and knew a few places, but essentially had to figure out the island on my own.
In 2018, I found myself single, redundant, then working from home and itching to return to the UK. But I didn’t leave, I stayed and joined an expat network and turned up to events on my own. I went to any birthday, event, or dinner that I was invited to, to make more friends and try new places.
The friends I made were new to the island, and would ask, “where should we go for dinner? Have you been to this beach? Where do I get my nails done?” And I realised, I was actually quite the Social Butterfly and had an extensive Little Black Book of places to refer my friends to.
I’ve been recommending fun things to do, organising events from rugby screenings to Speed Dating to yacht trips, and everything in between as the Social Butterfly since 2021.
